LADO – Management of Allegations against individuals who work or volunteer with children
In Line with “Working Together to Safeguard Children” (2023), allegations or safeguarding concerns raised in respect of an individual who works or volunteers with children, should be referred to the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO). The LADO will offer oversight, advice and guidance and ensure that the concerns are investigated appropriately, in a timely way, and ensure children are safeguarded.
The LADO is located within Children’s Services and should be alerted to all cases in which it is alleged that a person who works or volunteers with children has:
- Behaved in a way that has harmed, or may have harmed a child
- Possibly committed a criminal offence against, or related to, a child; or
- Behaved towards a child or children in a way that indicates they may pose a risk of harm to children
- Behaved or may have behaved in a way that indicates they may not be suitable to work with children
The LADO role applies to the children's workforce (paid, self-employed and volunteers).
