What is Community Safety?
Community Safety Partnerships (CSPs) were introduced by Section 6 of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 with the purpose of bringing together local partners to formulate and implement strategies to tackle crime, disorder and antisocial behaviour.
The responsible partners are:
- Police;
- Fire and rescue authorities;
- Local authorities;
- Health partners; and
- Probation services.
In Blackpool, community safety is driven through the BSafe Community Safety Partnership, which is made up of representatives of the above partners via the following agencies: Blackpool Council; Lancashire Constabulary; Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care Board; Blackpool Teaching Hospital; North West Ambulance Service; Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service; National Probation Services; and the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner. In addition, there are a number of local agencies from the public, private and voluntary and community sectors that support and provide valuable contribution to the work of BSafe to drive its agenda in a collaborative multi-agency approach.
The main goals are to reduce crime, antisocial behaviour, drug and alcohol misuse, and re-offending in the area, whilst focusing on on supporting victims of crime and the communities affected by these issues. The Blackpool Community Safety Plan 2022-2025 outlines the strategies and actions BSafe takes to achieve these goals. This plan is regularly reviewed and updated to address emerging threats and ensure the safety and well-being of Blackpool’s residents.
