Blackpool Safeguarding Partnerships Conference 2024

The Safeguarding Partnerships held the first annual conference at Blackpool Football Club on 25 September 2024.

The conference launched the vision and linked priorities of all three boards and gave stage to three lived experience key note speakers, Rachel Williams, Dean Coady and Danny & Mike from Lads like Us.

A bit about our key note speakers:

Rachel Williams is the founder of SUTDA (Stand up to Domestic Abuse), she campaigns tirelessly and is committed to ending domestic abuse. She is also a qualified Independent Domestic Violence Advocate (IDVA). Rachel's ambition is to set up the 'House that Jack built' a children and young peoples refuge and place of safety, in memory of her son.

Dean Coady is a former Parachute Regiment Soldier & Frontline Police Officer. Dean has worked in Organized Crime, Special Operations, Murder Squad and Counter Terrorism. Dean works with the hard to reach communities and vulnerable adults.

Danny & Mike (Lads like Us) are two lads from Manchester who are using their lived experience of trauma to educate professionals working with families. They deliver bespoke packages with a focus on Professional Curiosity to inform future practice.

Workshops

Four workshops ran throughout the day, with delegates attending two of the four sessions:

  • Learning from Reviews (Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews, Safeguarding Adult Reviews, Domestic Homicide Reviews)
  • Serious Violence Duty
  • Trust & Relationships (Co-production Team)
  • Trauma Attuned Practice (Lads Like Us)

Attendance

We had great attendance with around 200 multi-agency managers and practitioners in attendance from a wide range of services across the children, adult and communities workforce, contributing to discussions and workshops throughout the day. The day was packed with positive engagement which was great to see!
